Though the cannabis world is steadily growing larger and its use becoming commonplace, many of us still have to deal with the stress of drug testing. If you’re wondering “does HHC show up on a drug test?” or, “how long does HHC stay in your system?” you have found the right place!
We’re answering all of those questions, and more, right here on the Mr. Nice Guys’ blog.
What Is HHC?
HHC, or hexahydrocannabinol, is one of the newest and fastest-growing products to hit smoke shop shelves lately. Though there have been almost 150 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, research is slow-going to discover each of their unique benefits and properties. HHC is fairly new to the scene of scientific scrutiny, but it was first synthesized in 1947 by Roger Adams.
How Long Does HHC Stay in your System?
How long HHC will stay in your system depends on a few things: the type of HHC you ingested, the amount of HHC you ingested, the frequency with which you ingest HHC, and your body’s unique metabolism.
But, remember how we said that science is still catching up on studying the details of all these new cannabinoids? Well, the answer to a lot of these questions about HHC is not concrete — because science just hasn’t gotten there yet. However, from HHC’s chemical makeup, we can infer that it will act similarly to THC in the body. So, this means that HHC could stay in your system for months if tested by blood. As far as urine goes, HHC could be present anywhere from days to weeks depending on the level of use and other factors.
Will HHC Show Up on a Drug Test?
Will HHC show up on a drug test? The answer: possibly.
How long HHC will stay in your system and whether or not HHC will show up on a drug test are very different questions. While we can infer a lot about how HHC stays in your system, science does not know how HHC is broken down in the body yet.
While many claim that HHC use will slide under the radar of a drug test, these claims are all anecdotal. There is currently no present data to prove that HHC doesn’t convert to 11-hydroxy-THC (the metabolic product of THC drug tests are commonly looking for). So, if you are in a situation where you face being drug tested for THC, we would urge you to be cautious about using HHC.
Is HHC Legal?
HHC is currently legal to buy, sell, and consume. Although HHC was synthesized back in 1947, it has really only hit the market recently. Because of this, there are no real rules or regulations for HHC’s production or sales… yet. Currently, HHC’s legality is tied to the 2018 Farm Bill, like lots of other hemp-derived products on the market right now. By this standard, HHC is fully legal as long as it contains 0.3% or less Delta-9 THC.
What Are the Effects of HHC?
Science has just not caught up to studying the effects of these cannabinoids as quickly as they are being synthesized. However, we do know that the process by which HHC is made — hydrogenation — makes products more shelf-stable. This could mean that HHC has a future as a longer-lasting and more stable option to Delta-8, or Delta-9 THC, which both degrade into CBN with time, heat, and light exposure.
Even though we don’t have the science to back how HHC affects humans, we do know that it is chemically similar to Delta-9 THC. So it’s not surprising that anecdotal evidence suggests that HHC creates similar effects — including pain relief, anxiety relief, relaxation, and happiness.
How Long Does HHC Stay in Your System — A Final Word
So, HHC is one of the newest and most popular cannabinoid products to hit smoke shop shelves as of late. However, as far as will HHC show up on a drug test — the possibility that HHC will show up on a drug test is ever-present.
If you are faced with being tested for THC to keep a job, or for any other reason, we urge you to be cautious about HHC usage. Time (and science!) will certainly reveal specifically if HHC will fail you for a drug test. But for now, use your own discretion.
